This design was used for the half dime only at the Philadelphia Mint in 1837 and the New Orleans Mint in 1838. The coin is very attractive, especially its starless obverse. Points to check include the highest parts of the Liberty figure on the obverse and the leaves on the reverse. The dentils on both sides should also be checked. The Philadelphia coins are available in all grades. True Mint State coins made in New Orleans are rare and often overgraded.
