Coin number: MC145

Description: Small Eagle Reverse (1796-1797), Designer - Engraver: Robert Scot, Metal Composition: 89% Silver - 11% Copper, Diameter: 19 mm, Mass: 2.7 grams

Most dimes of this type have weaknesses or problems. Points to check for sharpness of striking include the hair of Miss Liberty, the centers of the stars, and the drapery lines on the bust on the obverse as well as the feathers of the eagle on the reverse. Sharp striking (which is not a common feature on this type) can be an excellent bonus. Examples should be selected with care as there may be problems of various kinds. Mint State coins are particularly rare.
