The half dime had been discontinued since 1805. This new design was launched on July 4, 1829. The new half dimes became popular and were circulated for many years. Striking varies: the details to check include the hair to the left of the eye and the star centers on the obverse and the eagle’s feather and neck on the reverse. Examples of all grades are easily available but a coin with Full Details is not so easy to come by and might take more time. At the Mint State level, connoisseurship is a must as there are overgraded and recolored coins.
