Seated Liberty Half Dimes, Arrows at Date Removed (1856-1859)
Coin number: MC133
Description: Arrows at Date Removed (1856-1859), Designer - Engraver: Christian Gobrecht, Metal Composition: 90% Silver - 10% Copper, Diameter: 15.5 mm, Mass: 1.24 grams
This design is practically the same as before but with 13 obverse stars added in 1838 and some drapery added to the elbow in 1939. Striking varies significantly: generally speaking, most coins made between 1838 and 1852 are sharper than later ones. Points to check include the star centers, the head of Miss Liberty, and the dentils on the obverse as well as the leaves and dentils on the reverse.
