Turban Head Quarter Eagle, With Turban (1808-1834)
Coin number: MC226
Description: With Turban (1808-1834), Designer - Engraver: John Reich, Metal Composition: 92% Gold - 8% Silver and Copper, Diameter: 20 mm, Mass: 4.37 grams
This type of Gold Quarter Eagle was minted with the two different diameters but for grading purposes, it is treated as one type. The coins did not circulate so most of the wear is limited to contact marks. Striking is generally good. The points to check include the hair and the stars on the obverse and eagle on the reverse. The dentils on both sides should also be examined. Practically all of the specimens available on the market are rare no matter what the grade. As a type, this coin is rarely collected below the EF level.
