Liberty Without Turban Quarter Eagle, No Turban Liberty (1834-1839)

Coin number: MC227
Description: No Turban Liberty (1834-1839), Designer - Engraver: William Kneass, Metal Composition: 90% Gold - 10% Silver and Copper, Diameter: 18.2 mm, Mass: 4.18 grams
Previous to the Act of June 28, 1834, the face value of gold quarter eagles was lower than their actual value in gold. The Act provided for the minting of coins with a lower weight, and after that date the coins circulated successfully. The design on the obverse is similar to the one used on the 1808, a design created by John Reich. The points to check include the hair and the stars on the obverse and rim on the obverse. As a type, this coin is rarely collected below the VF level.
