Flowing Hair Penny, Chain Reverse (1793)

Flowing Hair Penny, Chain Reverse (1793)

Coin number: MC106

Description: Chain Reverse (1793), Designer - Engraver: Henry Voigt, Metal Composition: 100% Copper, Diameter: 26.5 mm, Mass: 13.48 grams

Copper cents of 1793 have long been popular with collectors. The first copper coins were struck for a short period of time in 1793. The Chain design was discontinued very quickly after it was introduced, which makes this coin a numismatic favorite. The striking is not topnotch – the details of Miss Liberty’s hair are often indistinct. The reverse is much sharper than the obverse for all grades. The portrait of Miss Liberty is often weak.Despite these shortcomings, all varieties are ate due to the small number of available coins today.
