Draped Bust Half Dimes, Small Eagle Reverse (1796-1797)
Coin number: MC126
Small Eagle Reverse (1796-1797), Designer - Engraver: Robert Scot, Metal Composition: 89% Silver - 11% Copper, Diameter: 16.5 mm, Mass: 1.35 grams
The draped bust design is featured on several different copper and silver coins made between 1795 and 1798. Points to check for sharpness of striking include the hair of Miss Liberty, the centers of the stars, and the bust line on the obverse as well as the center of the eagle on the reverse. Dentils around the border are generally strong. Sharp striking (which is not a common feature on this type) can be an excellent bonus.
