Indian Head Gold Eagle, No Motto (1907-1908)
Coin number: MC245
No Motto (1907-1908), Designer - Engraver: Augustus Saint Gaudens, Metal Composition: 90% Gold - 10% Copper, Diameter: 27 mm, Mass: 16.72 grams
The design for this coin was made by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the famous Irish-born American sculptor. The coin was very popular both domestically and for export. Thus, a lot of the coins currently in the possession of collectors are actually re-imported exports found in Europe and taken back to America during World War II. The points to check include hair details and the feather vanes on the obverse as well as the eagle’s shoulder on the reverse. As a type, this coin is quite popular among collectors but it is not collected below the VF level.
