This coin shares the same design as the Half Eagle of the period. The reverse features a perched eagle with spread wings carrying a small wreath. The points to check include the hair and stars on the obverse as well as the eagle’s feathers on the reverse. Dentils on both sides should also be checked. The majority of specimens available on the market are in the higher grades, usually between EF and AU and the lower range of PF. The coin as a type is rarely collected below the VF level.
