Seated Liberty Dimes, Obverse Legend (1860-1873)
Coin number: MC156
Description: Obverse Legend (1860-1873), Designer - Engraver: Christian Gobrecht, Metal Composition: 90% Silver - 10% Copper, Diameter: 17.9 mm, Mass: 2.49 grams
Dimes of this type continue the Liberty Seated obverse but now the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA inscription was moved to the obverse of the dime and the stars were taken out. The wreath on the reverse was designed as a “cereal wreath.” Some issues are found prooflike, especially those from 1897 to 1881. Points to check include the head of Miss Liberty on the obverse, the wreath details on the reverse as well as the dentils on both sides.
