Gobrecht, Early Silver Dollars (1836-1839)

Gobrecht, Early Silver Dollars (1836-1839)

Coin number: MC210

Description: Early Silver Dollars (1836-1839), Designer - Engraver: Christian Cobrecht, Metal Composition: 89% Silver - 11% Copper, Diameter: 39.5 mm, Mass: 26.8 grams

The design used on this coin was the Liberty Seated design which was introduced in 1836. The points to check include the head of Miss Liberty on the obverse and the eagle on the reverse. Since these coins were initially launched as Proofs, the designation is still PF even for worn specimens. Most examples have contact marks even if they are in the higher ranges. A true Gem is hard to come by.
