In 1999 the Statehood quarters were launched featuring a number of different reverse designs each year. This is true of the years 1999 through 2008. These coins caught on and immediately became collectible items. In 2009 quarter dollars for Washington, D.C., and the five US territories were issued. These coins feature an alteration of obverse design which features the bust of George Washington. The reverse has two dates: the year the coin was issued and the date of statehood (for state quarters). Each state or district/territory selected their own design. This makes each design unique. Mint State coins of grades MS-63 and 64 should have only very little abrasion. MS-65 coins are less easily available. MS-68 coins are scarce for some years. Statehood, D.C., and territorial quarter dollars are rarely collected in the grades lower than AU-50.
