Description: Type 1 (1916-1917), Designer - Engraver: Hermon A MacNeil, Metal Composition: 90% Silver - 10% Copper, Diameter: 24.3 mm, Mass: 6.25 grams
All of the 1916 and many of the 1917 coins are of Type I where the right breast of Miss Liberty is exposed on the obverse. There are no stars below the eagle on the reverse. Many of the 1916 coins have problems with striking, particularly on the higher-relief parts of the head, the right knee, and the rivets on the left side of the shield. Mint State coins usually have an attractive and complete luster.
